Waffle Recall Sparks Warning in 14 States

Kodiak Cakes LLC has voluntarily recalled boxes of their Buttermilk and Vanilla Waffles because of the possibility of the presence of “soft plastic film.”
In a notice last week, Kodiak said that Costco members in the Midwest region should return the Kodiak Power Waffles Buttermilk & Vanilla 40 count with a use by date of January 10, 2026. The impacted waffles have a lot code of 24193-WL4 and timestamp of 12:00-23:00 along with UPC number 705599019203. The impacted waffles are being voluntarily recalled “due to the potential presence of soft plastic film,” Kodiak said in the notice.
Kodiak said that as of August 26, no injuries were reported related to the recall and no other Kodiak products are impacted. According to Costco Wholesale’s website, the Midwest region consists of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

In addition to the Kodiak Cakes waffles, numerous products have been recalled in the last month because of potential lead contamination, undeclared allergens and potential mold growth. Notably, cinnamon products have been recalled nationwide amid fears of potential lead contamination.

Authentik Fudge of Canada also issued a recall on hundreds of units of its Chocolate Fudge with Nuts under the name of MONTREAL FUDGE in August because of possible mold contamination. The impacted fudge was sold in Marshalls and TJ Maxx stores in certain states in the U.S., according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) release.
The FDA noted the lot numbers and expiration dates for the impacted product in their release and said that as of August 22, no other products were involved in the recall and no illnesses were reported. The recall was initiated after a customer alerted to “mold pieces” inside the box and additional products at the manufacturing location had “beginning signs of mold,” the FDA said.
